Intended Audience: Pathologists, Residents, Hematopathologists, Clinicians

If you’re concerned about how you can apply recent scientific developments to your diagnoses of cases encountered in the blood, bone marrow, and lymph nodes, this Course will provide you with a wealth of practical information.

Get indispensable guidance that will help you

  • Make accurate diagnoses of common and unusual problem cases
  • Overcome common problems of difficult differential diagnoses, including Hodgkin’s vs. non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas and large cell lymphomas vs. granulocyte sarcomas
  • Determine how and when to use cytochemistry, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry to distinguish between leukemias and between lymphomas
  • Determine which test batteries should be articulated with send-out materials
  • Understand the essentials of the new classification system
  • Get current with new antibodies being added to diagnostic venues

The distinguished faculty will present illustrative cases with pertinent clinical information. You will have an opportunity to examine select peripheral blood films, bone marrow preparations, and sections of lymph nodes. Ten microscopes will be available during scheduled program hours to view selected cases. Ample opportunity will be provided to interact with the faculty.

You will receive a comprehensive manual. An optional pre- and post-Course assessment is included.

Following this course, you will be able to:

  • Classify the malignant lymphomas, differentiating the histologic and cytologic criteria for each of the various subtypes of these lymphomas.
  • Describe the dynamics of lymphoid tissue response to antigenic challenges, including the cooperation and interaction of the T-cell, B-cell, and macrophage systems.
  • Interpret the spectrum of reactivity of lymphoid tissue.
  • Distinguish the subtypes of Hodgkin disease by outlining their histologic and cytologic criteria.
  • Diagnose various subtypes of both Hodgkin disease and the non-Hodgkin lymphomas and describe their respective histologic changes.
  • Identify the extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphomas employing histologic and cytologic criteria.
  • Classify the myelodysplastic disorders and the acute and chronic leukemias.
  • Differentiate the reactive WBC disorders.

The ASCP designates these educational activities for a maximum of 28.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activities.
