Gynecologic Pathology: A Practical Surgical and Cytologic Perspective

Date: February 2-6, 2010
Location: Tucson, AZ
Credits: 33.25 CME

Core Competencies: PC, MK, PBL
Intended Audience: Pathologists, Pathology Residents, Pathologists’ Assistants

Stay on the cutting edge with new information about:

  • Tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (TIC) as a possible precursor of ovarian and peritoneal serous carcinomas
  • Applications of the new Bethesda System for reporting Pap smears
  • WHO Classification of female genital tract neoplasia
  • FIGO staging of uterine corpus cancers
  • Diagnostic approaches, including liquid-based cytology, HPV testing, and more

Special course features:

  • Individual microscopes and glass slides for use throughout the course
  • Case reviews with video microscopy
  • Learner engagement using audience response equipment
  • Dual-head microscope for consultation with faculty
  • Course syllabus included
  • SAM credits (on-line pre and post-test required)

Here’s a unique opportunity to hear from a distinguished faculty about their critical thought processes in determining differential diagnoses. Get tips and advice for navigating critical areas such as diagnosis of many variants of ovarian tumors and “look-alike” entities and pointers about addressing complicating factors. Bring your challenging slides for discussions with the faculty and evaluate your knowledge with self-assessment options. A faculty member will be available for a limited time during the glass slide self-study sessions in order to answer your questions. This course is the best of both worlds: an overview of the spectrum of gynecologic pathology from both the histopathologic and cytopathology perspectives and an update on the wide variety of lesions of the female genital system. By focusing on your most challenging issues, you’ll improve your ability to provide clinically useful information to clinicians and your patients.

Following this course, you will be able to:

  • Apply diagnostic criteria for commonly and uncommonly encountered lesions of the female genital tract.
  • Differentiate malignant and premalignant lesions; assess their histopathologic, cytopathologic, and molecular similarities and differences, and identify important prognostic markers.
  • Apply your improved diagnostic skills to delineate and correlate cytopathology and histopathology of cervical and female peritoneal lesions.
  • Advise clinicians regarding the pathologic manifestations of a wide range of gynecologic and pregnancy-related diseases.

The ASCP designates these educational activities for a maximum of 33.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activities.

This activity meets MOC Part II Lifelong Learning requirements. A self-assessment option is available for pathologists attending this program to earn SAM credits for Maintenance of Certification, Part II Self-Assessment Modules (MOC-SAM) for part of the course.
